Why do you need to bring your pet for a health check ? Part 1

Rats,Hamsters,Mice & Gerbils:

Their life span is very short thus they need a health check every 4 months. With these pets, diseases progress very fast thus, catching things like lumps,enlarged organs and dental spurs before they worsen is vital. It is important to start the treatment as soon as possible. 

What does the Vet do when doing a health check?

  • Weigh the pet & check if your pet has any abnormal sized/shaped organs 
  • Check for heart disease & Lung disease as well as tumours and Arthritis 
  • Check for mites and internal parasites (worms) REMEMBER: bring your pet's stool sample with you when visiting the vet.
  • Teeth check 
  • Check the overall health of your pet 

Rabbits,Guinea pigs& Chinchillas 

They need a health check every 4-6 months, as with these pets, diseases progress fast. Catching things like lumps,enlarged organs and dental spurs before they worsen is vital. It is important to start the treatment as soon as possible.

Ferrets 

They need a health check every 4-6 months & all female ferrets need to be spayed & thereafter they need a suprelorin implant to prevent adrenal gland tumours. All Ferrets must be vaccinated against Distemper & Rabies. Catching things like lumps,enlarged organs and dental spurs before they worsen is vital as it is important to start the treatment as soon as possible.
